Grocery Shopping

Keep cloth bags on a hook by the door and also in the trunk of your car.

Post a shopping list on the fridge door. Encourage all family members to write down what they'd like and when they use the last of something.

Plan your meals at least one week in advance, so you know what you have to purchase.

Make a master list grouped by aisles and photocopy it. Just before you go shopping go through your cupboards and cross off anything that you have on hand and anything that you don't need for the menus you have planned.

Trade babysitting with a friend so you can do the shopping by yourself.

Start with the non-perishables first, then the fruits and vegetables, the bakery, and finish with the freezer section.

If you shop at several different stores, arrange your trip in a logical fashion, ending with the most delicate purchases. Also, map out your route so you cover one side of town on the way in and the other side on the way home. Make this all a part of your menu planning.

Another way to do this is to stop at one or two stores on your way home from work each evening. Some people would prefer to break it up into small jobs. Others like to do it all at once and get it done.

If you clip coupons, put them in your wallet when you clip them. If you use a coupon organizer, keep it current and leave it by the door with your bags.
