Moving Day

  • If you rent a truck, check to see if there are rings on either side of in the interior walls at the end right behind the cab. If so, you can string a rope or bungi cord across and hang clothes and blankets on it.

  • The day before the move, take everything you use in the morning before leaving the house and put it all in a box. Do the same for every family member. Label each box with the person's name. These are the essentials.

  • At the new house, lay cardboard or plastic runner at the entrance and through the halls. Have "inside" workers to take the boxes to the appropriate rooms and "outside" workers to carry them from the truck to the house.

  • Make sure one person is in charge of each job and that everyone knows who is in charge. For example, have a person inside the truck, deciding how to best stack boxes and furniture, with other helpers carrying things up the ramp. This will save a lot of time as well as wear and tear on the nerves.

  • Create an assembly line of workers for both loading and unloading the truck. Everyone has fun passing boxes along to the next person and nobody feels like they are working harder than anyone else. It also really speeds the process along.

  • Put the beds together and make them as soon as possible. Then when you are exhausted and just want to fall into bed it will be ready for you.

  • Arrange the big pieces of furniture before loading the rooms with boxes.
