Place the telephone slightly out of sight, so that it doesn't distract you. When you see it, the calls you have to make are constantly on your mind, preventing you from focusing on the job at hand
Mount it on the wall if possible, to save desktop space
Purchase an extension cord if it will make your job easier, and a rotating connector to keep the cord from tangling
Don't use a portable telephone too close to a computer for any length of time, as the frequency waves will damage the computer
