Office Organizing Ideas

  • Desk - give yourself enough space to spread things out comfortably. Position it so that it is not directly across from the door, but so that you can see the door from where you are sitting. Make sure there is no pathway behind your chair where people can sneak up on you. It there is, then block it with a divider or place a large reflective object where it will enable you to see behind you

  • Chair - buy the best you can afford. Test plenty before making your decision. Give yourself enough room to roll around. Leave space behind your chair so that you can push it back

  • Filing Cabinets - get a good sturdy one with drawers that glide easily

  • Lighting - try to get a combination of natural and artificial light. A desk lamp should be positioned on the side of your non-predominant hand, to prevent shadows

  • Electrical - use surge protectors and have additional outlets installed if you need them. Don't use extension cords and octopus plugs, to be on the safe side. Mount an outlet strip on the back of the desk or on the wall in an easy to reach location. Tie up long cords with twist ties and fix them to the underside of the desk with electrical tape
