Make this room the priority. Do a quick pickup every night before bed and you will have peace of mind knowing that if somebody drops in for a visit, the living room is always ready and waiting for visitors
Store photos in matching photo boxes or in nice looking albums, for instant entertainment
Cluster plants together in one room, to cut down on the time it takes to care for them.
A damp sponge picks up pet hair off upholstered furniture quicker than vacuuming does.
Try to keep the living room as clutter free and relaxed as possible. Decide how many activities the room is used for and set up a "station" for each activity. E.g. "TV Station", "Visiting Station", "Reading Station".
Remove everything from the room that doesn't belong to one of the stations.
Clear out the bookcases and magazine racks. Donate or sell any that you don't need anymore. Organize the keepers by size, colour, subject or alphabetically. If you want to save any magazine articles, tear them out and file them, and recycle the magazines.
Display only the ornaments that make you smile right now. Give away the ones you don't really care for. Put the rest away temporarily. They can be brought out once in a while and switched with your other favourites.
